Third Week of Fall Quarter and Major Upcoming Events

Hello all,

The third week of school is upon us and there is already quite a bit of information I have to share with you in regards to AED!

First of all, this week will be our first AED Study Session of the quarter on Tuesday, October 7th from 7-9 pm located at Suzzallo Cafe. Our study sessions this year will also include themes in order to allow all of our members to ask our officers questions in regards to being a pre-medical student on the University of Washington Campus. Our first theme this Tuesday will be RESEARCH and we would encourage all of you to come join Alice, Elizabeth, and I during this time.

Then, our philanthropy chair Alec Sullivan has a message regarding upcoming volunteer events for everyone. Make sure you read everything throughly.

"COME VOLUNTEER WITH ME

Fill out this survey here about events coming up in October/early November and long-term opportunities.

Below are summaries of each event.

1. Heart and Stroke Walk, a fundraiser for the American Heart Institute, has opportunities to set up on October 10th or the day of the event on October 11th. It's your standard 5K, but it's at a nice venue (Fisher Pavilion at the Seattle Center) and sometime you can get free stuff!

2. Camp Korey is a non-profit organization that serves children with serious and life-altering medical conditions and their families at no cost. They are offering three Fall Family Weekend programs and they need some amazing individuals to act as Family Pals. These volunteers will act as camp counselors and ambassadors by spending the weekend with a specific family. Volunteers will eat meals with them, move through the various activities with them, and have a great weekend themselves!

This is a Friday-Sunday time commitment, and the dates for these programs are listed below:

October 10-12: Reconstructive Pelvic Medicine/Spina Bifida Family Weekend

October 24-26: Metabolic Disorders Family Weekend

November 7-9: Solid Organ Transplant Family Weekend

3. Life Science Weekend remains one of my favorite volunteer experiences. Three days of live demonstrations, interactive exhibits, and talks for school children and families interested in learning more about the exciting world of SCIENCE! It's fun, just do it.

If you have any questions/concerns/observations, feel free to email me at awsully@uw.edu. "

Make sure you direct general questions in response to this email, but specific questions should be sent to Alec at the email he listed above.

Finally, our first social of the year will be a Pumpkin Carving event with AMSA on Wednesday, October 29th, 6-7 pm. Location is TBA. Look out for future updates on this event via the Facebook page.

That is all! Make sure you check the Facebook regularly and come out to our study session on Tuesday.

Thanks,

Rachel Levenseller
